Well my search for the best Mexican food in Shreveport/Bossier will have to continue. Once again it's not that the food at Trejo's is bad, it's just not very good and its literaly the same menu as every other place in town. I know... I know, Mexican food tends to be the same thing, tacos, burritos, enchiladas and fajitas right? Not in my mind, I want to see some variety and local flavor. I've been all over Mexico and I can tell you that you aren't going to find tacos and burritos in the Yucatan. There were no chile relleno's on the menu either, just your basic taco and burritos. Trejo's is just another tex-mex style restaraunt with decent food and nothing more than that.

There are several locations in the area, but I have only eaten at this one. Service here is top notch and the rotund gentleman who seems to be the mgr does a great job to make sure drinks are refilled and customers are taken care of well. I have ordered several items off the menu and they are cooked well and the portions are more than adequate for dinner. There are only two items that prevent this from being a 5 star review: - A good portion of the chips served in a basket are always broken and its hard to get a decent scoop of salsa when you're holding a busted wedge of a chip. - The beef (steak/asada) is relatively low quality. This is the case for most Mex places and if you are familiar with cattle (boxed beef grading, etc); their quality is on the lower end of the scale (select and lower). Its a not a big issue, as flank is usually cut into small slivers and cooked well; hiding the deficiency in quality. If you want to taste the difference: order a fajita(or other similar dish) here or other local places and then one @ Superior Grill and you will taste the difference and actually tell the difference in the texture as well. Overall I highly recommend this place and will be making many return visits.

DONT GO HERE!! Absolutely awful food and service. The host completely ignored us when we walked in for a good 4 minutes. She just stayed on her computer and told us to wait....even though the restaurant was empty. Server was rude. Salsa tasted rancid and needed salt. Had such a strange taste to it. The queso had no flavor whatsoever. Didn't even taste like cheese. No peppers or onions or jalapeños in it at all...just a yellow bowl of lukewarm goop... Gross. We left before ordering and had to pay for the chips as well ( while the waiter and host talked badly about us right in front of our faces). Terrible food and service. STAY AWAY!!

Walk in, simple atmosphere, looks clean. Seated immediately, 1 minute later fresh bowl of perfect tortilla chips and fresh salsa arrives, served by a friendly young busboy who also takes my drink order. Waitress right behind him just as friendly. Order chicken burrito, it arrived in 5 minutes and is hot and delicious looking. Refried beans and rice are excellent. Fresh cheese sauce on top of burrito probably homemade, I shoulda asked. Chicken was a little dry but tasted good. Fresh picante salsa, I like things spicy, compliments flavor of dish, nice bite but not overpowering hot. Top notch tex-mex can stand up against most any I've eaten. Wish I tried this place sooner in my stay in bossier. Highly recommended.

I have eaten here for the last 7 years and their service is second to none. The food is good and is typical Tex-Mex, nothing fancy. They will bend over backwards to satisfy their customers. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Good food, good service every time. Fajita taco salad is the best! House dressing is great too.

Food was ok, a little underwhelming to be honest but the service was great which is something you don't find often in this part of the world. Margaritas are tasty, chips come out warm and the salsa has just the right amount of spice. The entrees are warm, the grilled chicken is well seasoned, everything else is just there.

The grilled fish is EXCELLENT! Actually it is the BEST grilled fish I've ever eaten. But, I always go to the one on North Market on North side of town near Northwood High School. Love their Queso and hot sauce. They also have Kareoke every Friday nite which is fun!

Absolutely no flavor...quite disappointing. Salsa tasted like tomato sauce. Cheese sauce was horrible. Would not recommend to anyone.

The food tasted like it was bought at a store, not authentic, not flavorful, not worth your time and money. The "queso" was actually Velveeta cheese in a bowl, the tortillas were bought at the local supermarket along with the salsa. I have eaten Mexican food in many different places around the world, to include Mexico, Spain, California, etc...and if I want store bought food, I would buy it and make it myself.

ahhh, real mexican food, and even in a to go box, and I didn't get ripped off. warm, tortilla chips, enough to last for several meals, and a nice mild salsa to boot. large portions here. we got two soft tacos, with beans, and rice, and then enchiladas with beans and rice. very filling, and nice garlicy after taste. everything fresh, and fast. y'all made my night. too bad we're in a hotel, with our dogs. I heard the art was fun. next time? maybe we can come in and eat.

Traveling through Louisiana on the way home to Texas and just stopped in with the family to eat. Two servers offered us Chips and Salsa and a third tried to take our drink order.... Good service or confusion? They looked confused. The Salsa was like ketchup for chips with no real taste whatsoever. All five dishes were bland bland bland. Did I mention this was supposed to be a Mexican restaurant. It's more like a Mexican't restaurant. Taco meat was like a bad Taco Bell experience and the taco salad dressing was a secret family recipe blend of thousand island and honey mustard salad dressings. Don't worry about the water that drains off of the lettuce in your tacos, the cold plate will catch it in a pool before it hits the table. As far as the quesadillas go..."yes, they do have cheese in them", oh but it's just not melted. What?! Trejo in Greek means "run". I suggest you run away and don't go to this place if you actually want food that has some flavor. It was like eating Mexican food in England where no Mexicans live and no one knows how to cook it. BUT this IS THE SOUTH!!!! Friends don't let friends eat at Trejos.

We are so disappointed in the service. We arrived and told the lady there were 10 of us. It took a very long time to push three tables together and have us seated. Once seated, it took another 10 minutes for our drink order to be taken. 45 minutes and 6 bowls of chips later, our food still has not arrived. I could understand if they were swamped but they were barely busy when we came in.

I live in Texas so its hard to compare to the mexican restaurants we have here. I have been to Trejo's twice and the service is outstanding. The food is ok but not to up the standards of the Texas mexican restaurants. You will get a good priced meal here with great service. It is great for Shreveport.

Very impressed! Upon arrival was a little uneasy. Thinking maybe it was just another Mexican food restaurant but decided to give it a chance due to the good reviews and can I say WOW! The service was awesome and the food was very good! Recommend to anyone if your in town. The prices are very fair as well!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
